Stand Up and MOVE!

Stand up and get moving for your health. Over at the Catholic Writer’s Guild is a great post titled, “Creaky Bones? Fitness for Writers” which I found inspirational and reminded me of some things I have done for my health but let slide. Keeping my body healthy is an important part of fulfilling my vocation. It is also important to show my children a good example. I used to do all my internet activity from a desk stationed for standing only. I loaded all my favorite move my body music onto that computer and would play music while I surfed … Continue reading

The Great Weight Write-off WEEK 2

Good morning! beginning another week of sticking to our diet plans and working to be healthier. Our lives are enhanced by greater health and so are the lives of our families. One member of the family stepping out and changing actions can make a very big difference in the lives of all members of the family. Especially if that person is doing the cooking! This week my goals are the same as in the past week. Eat on the schedule, on the foods list, and follow doctor’s orders about letting my body heal.  Greater health enhances our performance in our … Continue reading

The Great Weight Write-off: 01-18-13

The Great Weight Write-off update! This week was busy with two attempts at getting an MRI.  I have a fractured and slightly displaced tailbone (part of the car accident injuries–now proven). Yes, I am in pain. (:-P Weight 229 Waist 43 Bust 52 Hip 53 Down side: I have three times not felt hungry, forgotten breakfast, and ended up with low blood sugar and the expected emotional crash, followed by carb cravings. I know better! The Android now alarms at 9 AM to remind me that if I have not eaten that I am LATE. This alarm joins the one … Continue reading

Trial by MRI

Prayer and a stiff dose of medicine to calm my anxieties worked in tandem to get me through my second attempt at a closed MRI. Being a rather fat woman, it felt snug. Yesterday’s attempt resulted in shaking, tears, and panic. Not at all pleasant and rather embarrassing. Today I daydreamed, enjoyed the uninterrupted time to think in peace, said a relaxed 33 prayer rope (Chotki) like my Orthodox buddy Maria uses, and a decade of a rosary, counted out on my fingers. I spent time thinking about such theological truths as the reality of the Holy Trinity along with … Continue reading

Great Weight Write Off

Well, the name has changed but the plan is the same. The Dieting Dozen Writing to Lose is now the Great Weight Write-off– much better! I started blogging the whole experience early, so this is my second post on the determined bunch who are supporting each other as we seek to pursue health by way of losing some weight and eating healthier. I had a very stressful day today and stuck firmly to my diet. I ate nothing that I should not eat even though it was difficult.  I tend to eat when I stress, and I totally failed to … Continue reading

Dieting Dozen Writing to Lose Challenge!

Dieting Dozen in a Writing to Lose Challenge is a group of ladies who have banded together for mutual support in our efforts to better ourselves by way of bettering our health.  MY goal is to learn to stick rigidly to my diet and in the process improve my health and hopefully shrink my waistline.  With my fellow travelers in this journey toward virtue, I promise to post on my progress every week. March 1 is the target date for this challenge. Who will lose the most weight or inches? Who will be successful in eating on their plan and … Continue reading

Reading Wheat Belly

I’m listening to the audio version of the book Wheat Belly.  This book is amazing and could improve the health of nearly anyone! I think the science in this book pretty much explains the health problems my husband has that the doctors he has consulted are unable to diagnose. It sure is worth the effort to change the diet to eliminate what might very well be the problem.   … Continue reading

E-books and Print Books: my opinion

E-books should cost much less than print books with their manufacturing over-head. A $3 difference is hardly any difference at all!  I expect that an e-book price sits under half the print cost of that same book.  Even better, I expect it to be even lower than that. I enjoy my computer and my kindle and my droid phone.  There is very much to recommend them and someday I would like a nice ipad or tablet, but not quite yet. Meanwhile, I struggle with the entire idea of books in digital format where a computer crash might cause them to … Continue reading

Progressing In My Vocation

I used to wonder how I would ever know what to do with my life. Many persons have asked this question. It is a huge struggle because each of us has many possible paths we could take and are generally young and inexperienced when we make some pretty major choices. I remember looking at the wide range of my interests and abilities and despairing of ever figuring out what I was expected to do with all of that!  Which way did God want me to go? Which way did I want to go?  Were they the same?  Were all decisions … Continue reading

Catholic Writer’s Guild LIVE! Conference REVIEW

I spent most of this past week in Arlington taking in the amazing Catholic Writer’s Guild Live! Conference, that took place in the same place as the Catholic New Media Conference, and the Catholic Marketing Network Trade Show.  WOW!!!  It has taken me nearly three days of recovery to even begin to absorb all that I attended. First, the good.  I loved meeting people whose blogs and books I have read, am reading, or would like to read. That was so very very FUN I can barely handle it yet.  Give me time.  I’m a mite slow in managing input … Continue reading
