SCANDAL! Public Catholics promoting heresies

Catholics in public office or speaking in a public venue to thousands of listeners have an obligation to avoid promoting a known heresy. Nobody today could possibly be ignorant of the Church teachings on contraception and abortion. Possible perhaps to be confused on the Church’s teaching on marriage or the 1st Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, but NOT possible to be confused on contraception and abortion being gravely wrong, sinful, and completely contrary to Church teachings on LIFE. Catholics no matter what vocation they have are ALL obligated to know the faith and to clearly … Continue reading

THE WAY a movie about living

THE WAY, “Written and directed by Emilio Estevez, THE WAY was filmed entirely in France and Spain along The Way of St. James, also known as “El Camino de Santiago.” ” [from the back of the DVD case], stars Martin Sheen, father of the director/writer Emelio Estevez.  Its a family affiar of a film including cameos of several members of Martin Sheen’s family. I LOVED this movie about a grieving father, a fallen away Catholic, who walks the Way for his son.  The movie included some interesting people, each struggling with their own pain, who join the main character along … Continue reading

Sometimes the midafternoon sucks

Yeah, my title is crude. I’m at my desk unable to work because the Little Tiger, who is almost three, is throwing a temper tantrum over being forbidden to bring the outside slide into the house. I should get a prize for patience this afternoon. I ought to get a prize for parenting too! What a loud tantrum the Little Tiger throws. It began with a small rebellion. I told my child “No, the outside slide must stay out here.” The child did not like this and said so. Daddy said he could watch while he worked nearby. I repeated, … Continue reading

June 26 Feastday of St. Josemaria Escriva

Drew Mariani show with Fr. Rocky talking about St. Josemaria Escriva on his feast day, June 26. Just look down the calendar to June 26th and click on the first hour of the show.  It is a wonderful conversation about this marvelous and beloved Saint. All are called to be saints.  There is no room in the Church for slackers. People underestimate their vocation, they think they must do famously great things, but the truth is sanctity can be found anywhere and in any task.  You become a saint exactly where you happen to be. (paraphrase from the audio). I … Continue reading

Fixing the Divorce Problem

Divorce strikes at the heart of our vocations that include marriage.  Divorce is a symptom of flaws in how we develop ourselves and in the way we choose our spouses. More study of those flaws and what needs to be done to correct them will go far in the effort to decrease divorce. Over at the Register they have an EXCELLENT article about the damage divorce causes children. This article highlights a conference focusing on the experiences of the children from marriages that break up.  Divorce causes them emotional problems and while not insurmountable, the damage is real. By severing … Continue reading

Self Publishing or Submitting to a Publisher?

I’ve this wonderful little story of which I am very proud and it would make a nice children’s picture book. I know what kind of art work I want to see put with it and would prefer to work with the artist myself to plan the series of illustrations. Ideally, I would learn the ropes and create this book with the help of the artist I choose and a good graphic designer. I know just who I would choose as I LOVE how she designs even her notes for graduate classes! But the traditional path is submission to an established … Continue reading

Respecting Ephesians 5

I was reading online and came across this EXCELLENT discussion of the passage in Ephesians that I have heard so many times in my life: Chapter 5. In her article, Respecting Ephesians 5, this author discusses the issues feminism has with the passage and why those are misguided.  She is very clear on the meaning of the passage IN CONTEXT which is something I rarely see.  She is very good with this topic. Do please read her article over at the Catholic Chapter House Blog. I most enjoyed her excellent handling of the material in context.  It is too often … Continue reading

TWO WEEK CHECKUP

Parenting has its chores and joys.  I take parenting seriously as a major part of my vocation. It is not my very favorite part of my vocation but it is up there near the top.  I truthfully enjoy study and writing more than I do parenting.  I enjoy the relationship with my husband more than I enjoy parenting.  Parenting comes next in the hierarchy of what I enjoy most in my vocation.  That said, it is certainly an important part of the vocation of marriage. Part of that vocation to marriage and parenting includes such mundane activities as educating our … Continue reading

Yesterday

Yesterday was a major head-ache of a day.  An actual head ache was the core problem.  I couldn’t shake it, not with a nap, not with medication, and as the pain medication for the c-section is strong and I’m still on it that unshakable head ache didn’t make sense. I do have a head-cold.  But usually the saline nasal flush does a good job easing the sinus head-ache situations.  This seemed to do little. They asked about blood pressure but this is already measured and managed with medication. I also have been pushing fluids and yet I am thirsty.  How … Continue reading

Of Autoharps and Sewing

I woke this morning to a screaming two year old who was just plain GRUMPY and determined that I not be left alone to think and blog.  Coming on the heels of an evening spent with this same child being unwilling to leave me alone to read before bed, I find myself with a head-ache and nothing much of depth to say. Sometimes life just does that to me.  Nobodies fault exactly since two year old children can be difficult simply on principle. Autoharp:  I do like thinking about my autoharps.  I call my smaller instrument FRED.  Fred is a … Continue reading
