Fixing the Divorce Problem

Divorce strikes at the heart of our vocations that include marriage.  Divorce is a symptom of flaws in how we develop ourselves and in the way we choose our spouses. More study of those flaws and what needs to be done to correct them will go far in the effort to decrease divorce. Over at the Register they have an EXCELLENT article about the damage divorce causes children. This article highlights a conference focusing on the experiences of the children from marriages that break up.  Divorce causes them emotional problems and while not insurmountable, the damage is real. By severing … Continue reading

Respecting Ephesians 5

I was reading online and came across this EXCELLENT discussion of the passage in Ephesians that I have heard so many times in my life: Chapter 5. In her article, Respecting Ephesians 5, this author discusses the issues feminism has with the passage and why those are misguided.  She is very clear on the meaning of the passage IN CONTEXT which is something I rarely see.  She is very good with this topic. Do please read her article over at the Catholic Chapter House Blog. I most enjoyed her excellent handling of the material in context.  It is too often … Continue reading

HHS Mandate = symptom of bigger battle

There are a lot of people writing about the problems with the HHS mandate. The Bishops conference posted a list of things everyone should know about this mandate.  Fr. Z blogged a bit on this HHS mandate and on the new Washington State unnatural marriage bill.  Fr. Barron videos on the Anti-Catholic and Un-American HHS mandate.  Why I am Catholic has a piece on The HHS Mandate and the Lord of the Rings that is truly marvelous. This battle is bigger than the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America.  The Constitution merely enumerates a FEW … Continue reading

Vocation of Marriage: George Bailey or Prince Charming?

Over at the National Catholic Register I enjoyed an article titled: Do You Want to Marry George Bailey or Prince Charming?  Please do take the time to go read this fine article and browse their headlines. I was reading this and thinking about my husband who happens also to be my very own mad scientist, inventor, philosopher, creative genius, and a sanctifying influence on my life.  I love the man. He makes me think of a mix of Merlin and Sherlock Holmes. He challenges me to keep growing in my vocation and I in turn challenge him. Women do themselves … Continue reading

CCHD violations of Catholic Social Teaching

CIA: Social Injustice This is a very important video about the problems in the Catholic Campaign for Human Development or CCHD. Helping the poor cannot EVER be combined with ideologies incompatible with Catholic values– and the CCHD, with the full knowledge of the Bishops, hands over millions of dollars to groups that promote directly practices contrary to Catholic values– in other words, if you, as a Catholic, donate to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development YOU are promoting abortion, handouts of condoms, homosexual marriage and communism. Catholic Social teaching condemns abortion, yet the CCHD sends money to groups that promote … Continue reading

I Have Met Supermom!!!

I have MET SUPERMOM! I recently read an article in the Texas Home School Coalition Review (August 2011, Vol. 15, Issue 3)* titled “Insights From a Supermom Wannabe” in which the author made the conclusion, “Supermom does not exist.” and my instant response was, “Yes she does and I know who she is!” This mother demonstrated utter faith in God, total obedience to God’s will, a deep humility in her own person, modesty in all her actions, dedication to her vocation, patience in adversity, kindness to others, and an eagerness to serve God no matter what it was going to … Continue reading

Support Groups and Heatlh

I’m hating the fat suit and doing something about it.  I’m changing my eating habits and am participating on a forum full of other people struggling the same way as I am struggling and who are cheering each other on and losing weight together. Personally, I have decided that I don’t want to be tied to the scale as the measure of my success.  I am choosing to measure based on excess energy availability and the fit of my clothing.  For example, yesterday I wore a skirt that hits the top of my shoes and is thus a very long … Continue reading

Issues of Faith: Sacraments

Catholics believe in seven sacraments, some of which cannot be undone once they are done: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Marriage, Holy Orders, and Anointing of the Sick.  Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage and Holy Orders are one time and permanent. Once Baptized, a person is permanently marked by God and will never lose that mark, even if they repudiate everything Christian and live a debauched life, never repent and end up in Hell by their own choice–the mark will remain.  The same is true of Confirmation, Marriage and Holy Orders. Marriage and Holy Orders are entries into a state of life.  This … Continue reading

Issues of Faith: Decrees of Nullity

Civil Marriage is what the government does, Sacramental Marriage may occur at the same time as a civil marriage but they are not the same thing.  A civil marriage can end in divorce, a Sacramental Marriage cannot. SACRAMENTAL MARRIAGE is a permanent bond.  Death is the only parting of two souls bound in a Sacramental Marriage.  This bond is so important that EVERYTHING depends on the answer to the question, “Was this marriage that ended in divorce merely a civil marriage or DID A SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE EXIST?” The authority in the Church with the responsibility for discerning through careful … Continue reading

Issues of Faith: Sacramental Marriage

On my favorite forum we had a discussion about divorce.  Agreed upon was that divorce is too common among Catholics.  I believe it is also too common among other Christians as well, but here I deal from the Catholic perspective and allow other Christians to apply the ideas to their own situations. I argued that the problem is not divorce but that Catholics enter into civil marriages without entering into Sacramental Marriages.  Furthermore, the problem of lack of sacramental marriage is due to poor Catechesis (knowledge of what the Church teaches) and lack of discipleship (application of Church teaching to … Continue reading
