At the Foot of the Cross with Mary and John

At the foot of the cross with Mary and John to witness the words Jesus spoke from the cross: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” “Woman, behold your son. Behold, your mother.” “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me.” “I thirst” “It is finished” “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit” – Jesus of Nazareth This is the point in scripture that most moves me.  All of the Gospels are moving and rich with meaning, but this moment, when Christ … Continue reading

Some Seriously Amazing Space Saving Furniture

This is a fun blog day.  I found this last night on facebook and am totally delighted.  Design like this stirs my imagination.  Enjoy!! This is an amazing video of truly fascinating space saving furniture. Imagine how much better a home could be done, with efficient space use with furniture like this, thus freeing up more floor space for greater openness in each room. They talk about it as essential for a tiny efficiency apartment, and I can see that. I see it and think about how you really don’t NEED the bed during the day and how nice it … Continue reading

POLL: Vote in the TIME Magazine poll

Fr. Z over at WDTPRS brought this Time Magazine poll to my attention. Given what is going on in the USA right now, Timothy Card. Dolan, as President of the USCCB engaged on our behalf in a battle with the White House over the religious liberty and civil rights of all Americans… and making headway… is nothing if not “influential”. Card. Dolan should be on that list.  If he is on that list, he’ll get some “street kred”, though the newsies will ignore it.  Will it make huge difference?  Perhaps not.  But when pundits and talking heads prattle about this our battle … Continue reading

Tuning Life

My autoharps need to be tuned.  It isn’t always easy to find the time I need to tune my musical instruments, yet, if I fail to do the tuning, then neither instrument is ready to play when I have time to practice.  If I don’t have them ready to play for practicing then the practicing doesn’t get done, and if there is too little practice then I never learn the songs, and if I never learn the songs then I am unable to go play for anyone because I am unprepared. There is a LOT in my life like tuning … Continue reading

Palm Sunday Homily: “Crucify Him!”

Lent has always brought to mind truths I personally need to remember such as the reality that every sin committed is in effect my joining in with the crowds shouting of Christ, “Crucify Him!” Rarely do I see our participation in the crucifixion discussed outside of Lent.  Scripture tells us that Jesus said, “Whatever you do to the least of these, you do unto ME.”   This is a good starting point for coming to recognize in what ways we say our own, “Crucify Him!” The least of these, an example. LIFE ISSUES The person who ignores Church teaching on artificial … Continue reading
