Mark Gunn: Autoharp Music

I like Mark Gunn’s music.  I like the instrument he plays.  I enjoy celtic music.  I love the humor in his funny songs.  I am a Tolkien fan and so his Hobbit songs are wonderful. I guess I am a fan.  His style makes me think of a traveling bard. I enjoy the wonderful music out there on autoharp, and there are several incredibly talented musicians whose skill on the autoharp is just amazing. But I really LIKE this artist’s use of the instrument.   … Continue reading

Social Justice and Unfairly Burdening the Little Guy

Catholics are supposed to consider the common good which includes in its definition the essential that the individual good must not be harmed. This gets a bit complicated in the real world out here.  We make all sorts of laws to regulate industry so that things like children’s clothing are as safe as possible and property so that a homeowner doesn’t end up next to something that harms her property values. But what happens when those laws, intended for the big corporations, prevent a housewife from selling her own work and thus helping her family or adds so much burden … Continue reading

Really Awesome Blog to Tell You About!

ALL YOU CAN EAT CATHOLICS  is an amazing blog by two graduates of John Paul II University.  They are converts to Catholicism and their passion is showing the Bible as a Catholic Book. After all, the New Testament was compiled by Catholics aided by the Holy Spirit and the Old Testament in its fullness was preserved by the Catholic Church guided by the Holy Spirit. I have often said that the Bible led me to Catholicism.  I never felt that a God of order and reason as the creator of everything must be to have produced such a complex universe … Continue reading

Musings….On Pregnancy

Pregnancy, even when it is going along well, is sometimes exhausting.  I’m in one of those pregnancies where I began to feel very very tired at the start and it has not improved much. In fact, as I traded the morning sickness that lasted all day, it was replaced with ever greater exhaustion. I’m simply horribly TIRED.  It has interfered with my housekeeping. It has made keeping up with the Little Tiger quite difficult.  It slows my brain, ruins my concentration, and makes me wonder if pregnancy has decreased my IQ!  Even sitting in a comfy chair to write a … Continue reading

Baptism of the Lord and St. Josemaria Escriva

Baptism of the Lord: Feast of the Baptism of the Lord Catholic Culture has a wonderful post about celebrating activities for the Baptism of the Lord. One of the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary, this feast day is the perfect time to reflect on our baptisms into the death and resurrection of Christ.  I particularly liked the link above from Catholic Culture’s article on one way to celebrate the baptisms of your children so that they become familiar with the reasons why they were baptized and what it means as a sacrament. Christ did not need remission from sin.  WE … Continue reading

Sunday: Feast of the Epiphany, St. Apollinaris and the official end of the Christmas Season

Sunday: Feast of the Epiphany, St. Apollinaris and the official end of the Christmas Season. Many people have wonderful traditions for this feast day.  Coming from a non-Catholic background, I have no childhood memories of special preparations and activities for this day, but over at My Life In the Domestic Church she relates the traditions she is introducing to her small one. There are so many wonderful Catholic traditions that I have not yet begun to incorporate into my life.  I want to keep some of these traditions and so, in part, this is why I keep returning to the … Continue reading

Discovering Important Things About Yourself

All my life I thought if I could have an office space away from noise and distractions that my writing would take off. I had NO idea how wrong I was about myself! Hubby, God bless him, obligingly cleared a place upstairs over his workshop for a nice little office with a pretty view from the window. It took him a whole day to get that space cleared of his stuff and set up with my desk and book cases and other favorite things. I liked it up there. Quiet. Nice view. Rug I liked. Books. No distractions.  But I … Continue reading

Mothers and Children

My kids were rather radically different one from another and learning to parent each individual has certainly had it challenges.  It is a particular challenge for those of us whose vocations include parenting to find advice that works for our families. I heartily recommend the book by T. Berry Brazelton titled, INFANTS AND MOTHERS. His book Toddlers and Parents is another excellent book.  The best part about his books is that he recognizes that not all children are the same and not all children need the same things from their parents. Sadly the paperback version is out of print but … Continue reading

12th Day of Christmas: Saint John Neumann, Saint Telesphorus, Pope and Martyr and Epiphany

12th Day of Christmas: St. John Neumann, Saint Telesphorus, Pope and Martyr St John Neumann knew 8 languages and was a huge promoter of parochial schools in the USA. –catholicculture.org According to St. Irenaeus, St. Telesphorus, who governed the Church from 126 to 136 during a period of violent persecution, suffered martyrdom for the faith. –ucatholic.com Fr. Z on the Epiphany In this life we know God only indirectly, by faith, our reason aided by the authority of revelation and by grace.  This is St. Paul’s “dark glass” (1 Cor 13:12) through which we peer toward Him in longing.  Christ … Continue reading

Resolutions and Rambling Responses to other blogs….

It seems like everyone is blogging about their resolutions.  I like to see what others are hoping to accomplish in the year. Over at A Woman’s Place….Depends on Her Vocation is an entry that inspired me to put my personal resolutions on my own blog…. and to make suggestions for handling the typical small children interrupting mommy problems when attempting to fulfill resolutions. My resolutions fall into categories not unlike those on this blog: Blogging:  I recognized the need to DO SOMETHING to motivate me and help me become more diligent in writing to this blog.  I decided to make … Continue reading
