10th Day of Christmas: Feast of the Most Holy Name of Jesus

10th Day of Christmas: Feast of the Most Holy Name of Jesus

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” – John 1:29

SONG: All Hail the Power of Jesus Name…

Today we commemorate the name that is above all names–JESUS.  Not to say that we neglect this on other days but, like the rest of the Liturgical Calendar, this day is set aside to remind us of that special devotion we owe to the name of our Lord and God:JESUS CHRIST.

Philippians 2: 1-11

1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of charity, if any society of the spirit, if any bowels of commiseration: 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that you may be of one mind, having the same charity, being of one accord, agreeing in sentiment. 3 Let nothing be done through contention, neither by vain glory: but in humility, let each esteem others better than themselves: 4 Each one not considering the things that are his own, but those that are other men’s. 5 For let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a man. 8 He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross. 9 For which cause God also hath exalted him, and hath given him a name which is above all names: 10 That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth: 11 And that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God the Father.

A marvelous practice of prayer is called Lectio Divina.  To do this, read the above passage slowly out loud, focusing your mind totally on the words of scripture. Then sitting in silence, let this reading sit in your mind, thinking on it.  Pray silently about this passage, listen quietly to the implications of this passage.  In five minutes or so, pick it up again and repeat the read, contemplate, pray and listening steps.  Do this three times all together and let your mind be truly steeped in this passage of scripture so that, like tea, the essence is transferred into your mind and heart.

Wonderful video about the Holy Name of Jesus:

May your day be filled with a deeper awareness of the HOLY NAME OF JESUS.
